The holiday season can hold such a mixture of things. The anticipation of family gatherings, important religious observances, elaborate meal preparations, the giving and receiving of gifts. It can also be filled with memories of loved ones who are no longer with us, a powerful sense of the rapid passage of time, and the pain of estranged relationships felt even more acutely.
Holidays give us occasion to pause and reflect. They provide markers along the pathways of our lives when we take stock of things. My hope is that we will seize the opportunity that this season of light presents us to truly treasure all of our blessings, to grieve our losses, and to mend our broken fences.
