our legacy
Empath Health's roots run deep in Florida's hospice and home-based care. Founded as Suncoast Hospice in 1977 and Tidewell Hospice in 1980, our legacy began with two pioneers who redefined end-of-life care by providing expert medical support alongside emotional and spiritual comfort.
Over the decades, we've grown to meet the needs of more people in more places. Hospice of Marion County joined Empath in 2023, expanding care in North Central Florida. Trustbridge came on board in 2024 with Hospice by the Sea and Hospice of Palm Beach County, bringing Empath to Florida's east coast. Along the way, we launched Suncoast Hospice of Hillsborough and Empath Hospice, building services from the ground up to reach even more communities.
Our vision extends beyond hospice. We've built a continuum of care that supports people and their families when life takes an unexpected turn—seeing each person as more than a diagnosis or prognosis and honoring the story of their full life. This includes palliative and serious illness care to manage symptoms and improve quality of life, specialized dementia programs that educate and guide caregivers, home health services that help people recover and maintain independence, grief counseling for all ages, and wellness programs that address emotional, social, and spiritual needs. Whether at home, in a care center, or in the community, our mission is to help people live as fully and comfortably as possible.
Through it all, we are Empath Health, now one of the largest not-for-profit providers of hospice and home-based care in the nation. Our dedicated team continues to honor the legacy of exceptional care, meeting people where they are and walking alongside them through every chapter of life.
