What kinds of services are included in HIV and sexual health care at Empath Health?

Empath Health offers comprehensive services through our EPIC (Empath Partners in Care) program, including HIV testing and treatment, PrEP and PEP access, STI testing and treatment, sexual health education, behavioral health counseling, case management, and medication assistance. We also offer mobile outreach units that bring testing, prevention tools, and education directly into communities.

Who can access these services?

Our services are open to anyone in the community — regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, or income. We welcome people living with HIV, those at risk of exposure, and anyone seeking confidential, respectful care and education about sexual health.

How are these services funded, and what do they cost?

Many of our services are low- or no-cost. We accept a range of insurance plans and offer support for those who are uninsured or underinsured. Generous donors and community fundraising events help us keep care accessible, and partnerships — like our collaboration with Freddie — expand access to HIV prevention services statewide.

How does this fit into Empath’s Full Life Care model?

Sexual health is a vital part of overall health and identity. At Empath, Full Life Care means supporting the whole person — physically, emotionally, and socially — without judgment. Our services are designed to reduce stigma, promote wellness, and help individuals live fully and authentically at every stage of life.

How can I get involved as a volunteer or advocate?

There are many ways to make a difference. Volunteers support outreach, education, and events. Donors help ensure that services remain affordable for those who need them most. EPIC also hosts fundraisers and community events throughout the year that raise awareness and sustain care access across Florida.

What makes this program unique in our community?

EPIC provides one of the region’s most comprehensive HIV and sexual health programs, blending clinical excellence with culturally responsive, community-based care. Through mobile outreach, statewide partnerships, and a deep commitment to equity, we reach thousands of people each year with care that honors their dignity and meets their needs.

What is PrEP and who should consider taking it?

PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a daily medication that significantly reduces the risk of HIV transmission. It's recommended for people who may be at higher risk, including those with an HIV-positive partner, individuals with multiple sexual partners, and people who inject drugs. EPIC provides PrEP consultations, prescriptions, and ongoing support to help individuals take charge of their sexual health.

Do you offer services for people newly diagnosed with HIV?

Yes. A new diagnosis can be overwhelming, and EPIC is here to provide immediate, compassionate support. We offer medical care, case management, behavioral health counseling, peer navigation, and medication assistance to help individuals begin treatment quickly and build a strong foundation for lifelong health.

Join us for our Lights, Camera, Strike fundraiser at EPIC's 18th Annual Strike Out, taking place August 9 in Dunedin and August 16 in Tampa.

Strike Out raises funds that help EPIC meet the basic needs of our clients. These needs include food (individual meals and a food pantry), transportation assistance, mental health counseling, support groups, medical and housing case management and more.

EPIC is a nonprofit, full-service HIV services and support organization. Our mission is to serve our Tampa Bay community with expert HIV care, support and prevention services in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando counties.
