Empath Health is proud to celebrate three newly pinned nurses whose journey into compassionate care was supported through an innovative partnership with the University of South Florida (USF) College of Nursing and Florida's Linking Industry to Nursing Education (LINE) Fund.
Among 132 Bull Nurses who graduated this semester, Brianna Barton, Jaelynn Burton, and Brianna Temes became the inaugural Empath Health Scholars—each receiving a $10,000 scholarship to complete their final semester and gain immersive training in hospice and palliative care.
And they didn't just finish strong—they stood out:
-
Brianna Barton received the Clinical Excellence Award, earning enthusiastic applause from her classmates and recognition as a standout peer among her cohort.
-
Jaelynn Burton graduated Magna Cum Laude, a reflection of her academic dedication and commitment to compassionate care.
-
Brianna Temes graduated Cum Laude, honored for her hard work and heart for person-centered nursing.
"Our partnership with University of South Florida College of Nursing, strengthened through LINE funding, represents a shared commitment to growing the future of nursing," said Anita Smith, MSN, RN, Empath Health's Manager of Clinical Curriculum and Director of Nurse Residency and Simulation.
"Together, we are not only creating a seamless bridge from academia to practice but also investing in the long-term success and stability of the nursing workforce in care settings beyond the hospital walls. This collaboration ensures novice nurses are better-prepared, have increased confidence, and support as they transition into the role of a professional nurse."

Each Empath Health Scholar brought a unique motivation to pursue hospice care—often shaped by personal experience. Through their time with Empath's teams, they witnessed how dignity, comfort, and connection can transform care during life's most vulnerable chapters.
Empath Health is honored to join Tampa General Hospital, Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, and Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital as one of USF's LINE Fund partners, building meaningful career pathways that strengthen Florida's nursing workforce and expand access to Full Life Care.
These three new nurses are entering the field not just with credentials, but with clarity of purpose—and a deep understanding of what it means to bring humanity to healthcare.
