A friend once told me, “I’m not sure where it comes from, but somewhere within me there is this assumption that everything should go smoothly all the time. That I should be happy and content, and that nothing should ever go wrong. So, when something does go wrong, the reaction tends to be, ‘What? This is terrible! It shouldn’t be this way!’” In our more rational moments, however, we recognize that everyone encounters struggles and difficulties in this life.
But let’s take this one step further. Can we move beyond simple acceptance? One wise soul put it this way, “In the middle of every difficulty lies an opportunity.” If we approach the hard times with the knowledge that they are part of life for everyone and that it is possible to find opportunity in the midst of them, what an impact that would have on our lives! Let’s give it a try!
