Rachael Carson, BSN, admissions RN for Suncoast Hospice
Congratulations to our September Impact Award winner, Rachael Carson, BSN, an admissions RN for Suncoast Hospice working out of Morton Plant Hospital.
Carson joined the organization in early 2018 in a per diem role as she finished her bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree. Later in the year she transitioned to a full-time position. In her role as an admissions nurse, Carson meets with patients and their families to help facilitate the start of Suncoast Hospice services, as well as collaborating with interdisciplinary team members and community partners at Morton Plant Hospital.
“I feel very blessed to work alongside my fellow coworkers in admissions to coordinate the best care for our patients,” says Carson. “It is so rewarding to provide hope and comfort during a very difficult and vulnerable time.”

Carson was nominated by two of her colleagues. Here are excerpts from her nominations:
“I am nominating Rachael because I have worked with her several times since the beginning of my career with Empath Health and have watched her not only blossom but stay consistent with her impeccable service and healing presence. Rachael works in one of the busiest hospitals in Pinellas County that has traditionally been staffed with two RNs and one patient concierge. This year there have been many shifts and for the past couple of months she has often been left with just herself covering the entire hospital. Despite the multiple referrals and behind-the-scenes aspect an RN has to do to complete an admission, Rachael shows up for every patient and family member with amazing compassion, a brave spirit to do it all, and all the while maintaining a grateful voice. She never complains and always brings the most care to each case. She is such an incredible force and truly embodies the word “empath.” I always feel lucky to work alongside of her and always feel grateful when I can help her out and selfishly witness her amazing spirit. I consider her a friend and am thankful to learn from her.”
“Rachael works on admitting patients that have been hospitalized at MPH to the hospice team. She works with the patients and families during a very difficult time, often on the day they find out about a loved one’s terminal prognosis. Rachael shows such patience, compassion and remains empathetic during every meeting or phone call. I’ve watched her tirelessly work to arrange complex end of life plans to fulfil patient’s last wishes. On the busiest day Rachael remains positive and uplifting. She is an amazing representative to our organization.”
