Working with people who are living with chronic and life-limiting illness helps us to realize how precious our time is. A hospice patient once shared a quote with me, “Since we know not how we shall die nor when we shall die, how then shall we live?” Writer and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson put it this way, “Guard well your spare moments. They are like uncut diamonds. Discard them and their value will never be known. Improve them and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life.”
May we use our moments well, filling them with compassion and purpose and meaning.
