Many years ago, I asked my mother “What’s the most important part of being a good parent.” She smiled drawing on the wisdom gained from raising six kids and said, “Make sure that your children know they are loved. Cherish them and the rest will work itself out.” Unfortunately, the world is filled with people who have lived their lives deprived of this essential knowledge. The late Ram Das offers these words of assurance:
You are loved just for being who you are, just for existing.
You don’t have to do anything to earn it. Your shortcomings,
your lack of self-esteem, physical perfection, or social and
economic success – none of that matters. No one can take
this love away from you, and it will always be here.
May we bask in the knowledge that we are loved . . . and share it.
