Krista Tippett, American journalist, author, entrepreneur, and recipient of the National Humanities Medal, once said, “What an incredible power we have, to walk through the world, making somebody’s day.” What I love about this statement is that it draws our attention away from the typical focus on mundane task completion and benign self-absorption that characterizes much of our thought life, to the intriguing realization that what we do and say can positively and profoundly impact the people we interact with each day. Instead of just “getting through the day,” we are challenged to use our creativity and our compassion in the service of others.
Imagine how it would affect our teammates, colleagues, clients, participants, and patients and families, if we set our intention each morning to “walk through the world making someone’s day!” We have the power. Let’s put it to good use!!
